An HTC Thunderbolt that I got from FastLaneWireless, was stuck running Froyo and would not update OTA. HTC and Verizon told me they cannot force the upgrade on my HTC Thunderbolt and that updates are only available via OTA. I was basically left with no choice but to root the device and use a custom rom. I have done this on all of my Android devices, but I wanted to wait out the root until the ICS update rolls out for the bolt. Thanks to team at Android Police, I managed to flash my bolt with a VZW rom and let it activate and begin about 4 OTA updates. I am running Gingerbread now, stock VZW, and waiting for the ICS release.
